Calabretta is run by Massimiliano Calabretta on Mt. Etna.  Calabretta is known for its extremely long-aged and late-released reds of Nerello Mascalese, Mt. Etna's premier red grape variety. The current bottling of Cala Cala is a blend of 2017-2019, along with some 2005, 2009, and 2012. Cala Cala means "Gulp, Gulp" says Massimiliano, meaning you should gulp this one down because it's so tasty!  This wine is light on its feet but exhibits the more earthy and savory qualities of Nerello Mascalese. 

Pairing: lighter meats, including poultry or pork with roasted tomato or red pepper, and spices like oregano & thyme 

Grapes: 95% Nerello Mascalese & 5% Nerello Cappuccio
