Foradori 'Lezèr', Vigneti delle Dolomiti, Italy 2021
The birth of this wine is a turn 'lemons into lemonade' sort of situation. In 2017 there was a terrible hail storm which led to damaged grape bunches. In order to avoid too much extraction from the broken skin, Elisabetta Foradori decided to go with a very short maceration on the skins creating a juicy and vibrant light red. This wine ended up being a huge success and now the family continues to produce small quantities of this juicy summer sipper. They experiment every year with the mix of varieties, vessels and percentage of whole bunches. The fruit comes from a total of 8 hectares of vines scattered about in their village and beyond, on the sandy, gravelly alluvial soils so typical of this Dolomitic terroir. The spontaneous fermentation, short maceration and brief aging take place in a combination of cement, steel, old wood and amphora. Like the wine in the bottle, the label changes slightly each vintage. Served with a slight chill for optimal enjoyment.
