'A Vita 'Leukò' Bianco, Calabria, Italy 2021
Husband and wife team Francesco and Laura de Franco are located in Cirò, a region located on the arch of Italy’s boot tip, nestled between the Ionian sea and Sila mountains; and influenced both by the warm Ionian waters and cooler air sliding from the mountains. This structured white is a blend of Greco Bianco that is macerated for a few hours and the Gaglioppo, which is vinified white after direct pressing. The result is a bouquet of dried apricots with hints of grapefruit rind, dusty yellow flowers and raw almond. Francesco and Laura are making exquisite wines in this almost forgotten region, their production is tiny so don't wait long.
Pairing: Poultry, hard cows milk cheeses, dried apricots and figs.
Grapes: 70% Greco Bianco and 30% Gaglioppo
Viticulture: Organic, with biodynamic practices
