Berthaut-Gerbet Fixin, Burgundy 2021

Berthaut-Gerbet Fixin, Burgundy 2021
Amélie Berthaut is at the helm of Berthaut-Gerbet's 7th generation, and is helping to return Fixin to its prior esteem among the top Burgundy villages. After school in Bordeaux, a stint at Domaine de la Tour du Bon in Bandol, and Dunn in California, she returned home to take over the family domaine in 2013. Amélie is a true talent in Burgundy, and has now hired Nicolas Faure (vineyard veteran of Prieuré-Roch, DRC, and Chave) as her vineyard manager, who also happens to be her fiancé.
Amélie's wines are expressive and exciting, at times ethereal while retaining a rustic character. This is a terroir-driven red which speaks openly of the sandy clay-limestone soils of Berthaut-Gerbet's several vineyards in Fixin. The 2021 Fixin is grounded, with aromas of dry red berries and sun-baked clay; a light and elegant, yet structured gem from this decidedly cool vintage.
