Bonavita 'Faro', Sicily, Italy 2017
Bonavita is located in Faro, the north-eastern part of Sicily at 300 metres above sea level, an incredibly small region with 37 acres under vines. The vineyards, surrounded by chestnut and oak trees, have belonged to the Scarfone family for almost a century, but it is only recently that the young winemaker Giovanni has decided to dedicate himself to the making of this historical wine of Sicily. The entire production is about 7,000 bottles. These wines are very similar to mineral laden wines of Mt. Etna.
Pairing: Sausages on the grill, meatier fish with a tomato base prep and bitter greens.
Soil: mixture characterized by layers of clay and limestone
Grapes: Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, Nocera
