Last summer, we were fortunate to discover this exceptional property thanks to our friends at GK Selections. They introduced us to the producer situated in the southern and eastern region of Portugal, known as Alentejo, Portalegre, to be more specific. João Afonso bought this abandoned property in 2009 and transformed it into a flourishing ecological haven. Portalegre is situated on a granite mountain close to the Spanish border. The vineyards in this region are mostly privately owned and located at elevations ranging from 500 to 700 meters. Given the steep and mountainous terrain, viticulture in Portalegre is primarily on a small scale. A field blend of indigenous white varieties from several centenarian vineyards between 500-700 meters of elevation. We love this wine for its medium-bodied style filled with notes of honey, melon, and orange zest.

Pairing: Seafood pasta, heartier seafood dishes

Grapes: Bical, Fernao pires, Arinto, Malvasia, Roupeiro, Palomino

Viticulture: Biodynamic

Soil: Granite
