Castello di Verduno 'Bricco del Cuculo' Barbera d'Alba, Piemonte, Italy 2019
Gabriella, Elisa, and Liliana Burlotto are at the helm of Castello di Verduno, a property with a winemaking history dating back to 1909. Today they produce remarkable wines with a combination of tradition, a natural approach, and great competence. The grapes for this Barbera are sourced from Bricco del Cuculo, a vineyard in the commune of Neive in the Barbaresco appellation, aged for three months in Slavonian botti grandi followed by six months in steel and then three months in the bottle. Barbera d'Alba "Bricco del Cuculo" is a red wine of excellent structure &complexity, aged for 14 months in oak barrels. Notes of spices, licorice, leather, and red fruits emerge from its aromatic profile. The taste is enveloping and soft, characterized by a varietal freshness
