Catherine & Pierre Breton 'Les Perrieres' Bourgueil, France 2001
Catherine and Pierre are two vignerons whom are completely immersed in what they do. They live on property and makes wines expressive of terroir and vintage with minimal intervention. Les Perrieres is a wine made from 40 year old vines. This is the Bretons' greatest red, from one of the most prized hillside parcels in Bourgueil. The terroir is siliceous clay and limestone, and old vines give very low yields of 20 hectoliters/hectare on average. This 2001 is ready to go, earthy notes accented by soft aromas of licorice with dusty tannins, wild dried red fruits & crunchy autumn leaves.
