Cenatiempo Forastera, Ischia, Campania, Italy 2019
Ischia, a volcanic island, just off the coast of Campania, near the city Naples, has much to offer with its wines. Freshness, texture & that great Mediterranean salinity.
Cenatiempo was founded in 1945 and not much has changed over the last 70 years. The wine is still made from estate grapes as well as from some friends and neighbors throughout the island. And just like the early days, fermentation happens in steel or cement vats with indigenous yeasts with no intervention. Forastera reminds us of one of our favorite Alpine varieties, Prie Blanc. Although this is an island wine, it exudes glacial energy.
Grape: Forastera (Not to be confused with the Forastera found in the Canary Islands)
Soil: Volcanic
Viticulture: Biodynamic
