Clos Canarelli 'Tarra d'Orasi' Rouge, Vin de France 2020

Clos Canarelli 'Tarra d'Orasi' Rouge, Vin de France 2020
Yves Canarelli's dedication to restoring native Corsican grape varieties has been instrumental in the recognition of Corsican wines. As a former economics student turned enologist, Yves took over his family's vineyard in 1993 and has been a strong advocate for the cause ever since. The Corse Figari appellation has a rich history dating back to the 5th century B.C. Despite being the oldest wine-growing region in Corsica, it took pioneers like Yves to remove non-native grape varieties and ensure the recognition that Corsican wines deserved.
Tarra d'Orsi exemplifies the philosophy of Clos Canarelli, showcasing indigenous Corsican grape varieties. This wine is a prime example of Corsican wine's excellence and potential longevity. The fruit is 100% de-stemmed, 130-year-old pre-phylloxera vines, cap is punched-down once a day during fermentation, fermented and vinified in large foudres for 14 to 18 months, and not filtered. Tarra d'Orsi is produced in minuscule quantities and is a wine that will bring you incredible joy 5-10 years from now. Tarra d'Orsi rouge exhibits notes of maquis herbs, wild mint, and black fruits, persistent put integrated tannin, and acidity with incredible length. - Kimberly
