Colli di Catone 'Colle Gaio', Lazio, Italy 2007
If you are familiar with the wines of Valentini, Gravner, and Miani, Colli di Catone is another name to add to this list. The commitment to the indigenous grapes of the region, and the individual expression of grape and vintage is unparalleled. Antonio Pulcini is far more of an obscure producer, quietly been turning out white wines of similarly mind-bending complexity. The obscurity of Pulcini’s wines is in part due to his reclusiveness and how he chooses to sell his wines, exclusively from the cellar door of his estate, Colli di Catone. His wines rests for years before bottling in stainless steel tanks, following more years or decades in the cellar. The bottles are only released when the Antonio deems it ready to drink.
Grapes: Malvasia del Lazio (a/k/a Malvasia Puntinata) and Grechetto (a/k/a Greco Bianco)
