Charvin Châteauneuf-du-Pape, France 2010

Located in the northwest part of the appellation, with vines chiefly in Cabrieres, Maucoil, and Mont Redon, Laurent Charvin makes one of the most elegant and seamless Châteauneuf-du-Pape.  He farms all his 9ha of Châteauneuf-du-Pape parcels organically.  Opting to produce a single cuvée, the winemaking here is staunchly traditional, with no destemming and fermentation and aging occurring all in concrete tanks for 21 months, bottled unfiltered.

A superb vintage across Châteauneuf-du-Pape, 2010 shows beautifully now and will continue to age with grace beyond the 20-year mark. Moderate weather and slow ripening led to a vintage with excellent acid balance, concentration, complexity... all the right stuff. This wine is replete with juicy red fruit, blackberry preserves, wild herbs, and just a suggestion of a far-off autumn bonfire.

Grapes: Depending on the crop variation each vintage the blend is roughly 85% Grenache average vine age 58 years, 5% Mourvèdre 61 years, 5% Vaccarèse 62 years, 5% Syrah 21 years.

Soil: Sandy, more clay based soil with galets roulés

Farming Practices: Organic
