Daniele Ricci 'Ti Voglio Bene', Piedmont, Italy 2020
Cascina San Leto was founded by Carlo Ricci in 1929 & today is run by Daniele Ricci, one of the regions most well respected winemakers. Daniele however does not take credit for the greatness of his wines, he turns to the greatness of the terroir. His Cortese is not at all similar to the wines of Gavi. Ti Voglio is Cortese that spends a short time on its skins, sort of like an orange wine, but only enough to provide it with more texture, weight, and another dimension of flavor. This is a savory white with notes of farm fresh fennel, white pepper, orange peel, beeswax and hay. This is a nice introduction to the style of white wine he produces.
Pairing: dishes with ginger or lemon grass, herb roasted chicken, veal, goat cheese, fried fish
