Domaine Charles Audoin 'Clos du Roy', Marsannay, France 2013
Cyril Audoin is the fifth generation to join the family winery. His father, Charles, was a visionary, selecting and visiting the best parcels in Marsannay (at the northern tip of Côte de Nuits) before the region even gained the appellation status in the 1970's. Savy buyers are familiar with these wines and the exceptional terroir the family possesses. The 13 is showing lovely notes of ripe cherry, mushroom, that text book pencil shaving note, and forest floor. The palate is light and fresh. For someone looking for Burgundy with age, this is a stellar bottle.
Grape: Pinot Noir
Pairing: Meatier Fish prepared with mushrooms and artichokes
