The storied Domaine de Montille traces its history in Burgundy back to the 1730s. Today the estate is run by Etienne, whose greatest contributions has been the expansion of the de Montille holdings to include some of the Cote d’Or’s greatest terroirs as well the commitment to natural viticulture. Champans is one of the most celebrated climats of Volnay, a steep parcel with a diversity of soils from the top to the bottom of the vineyard. The name of the vineyard is derived from two words "Champ" (field) and "pans" (old dialect for "pente" - slope). This major Volnay 1er Cru is a fresh and vibrant, fuller body with grate structure. 

Grape: Pinot Noir 

Soil: The top of the parcel along the D973 is chalky with a light brown soil whereas the lower section of the parcel is more clay dominant with a darker brown and red-hued soil.
