Domaine Mia 'Clos la Marche' Monopole, Mercurey, Burgundy, France 2019
Domaine Mia may be a new Domaine, but bears a deep history beginning in 1860 with the planting of Clos La Marche, one of the most celebrated vineyards in the Mercurey. Previously known as Maison Louis Max, the winery now bears the name of the current generation Mia Subotic, who took the helm in 2020 with the goal of transforming this historic estate. With the crucial contributions of Alain Charleux, who cares for the vineyards, and consulting winemaker, David Duband, Mia is writing a new chapter in the domaine, infusing it with her passion and commitment. Nowadays, the quest to find value in Burgundy continues to be endless. Burgundy seems to be further out of reach between vintage difficulties and the climbing prices. This is why we love finding gems from over-performing producers in so-called lesser appellations. As Allen Meadows of Burghound said of the early releases, “This is quality Mercurey, and one to check out.” We couldn’t agree more!
Stylistically this is driven by ripe fruit and plush tannins, a very seductive wine with a lengthy and fruity finish.
