François Lequin's family have been vignerons in Santenay since 1673. The story from there is an intricate tapestry of Lequins and Colins weaving back and forth over generations and across communes. After taking the helm of the winery, François' vision was clear, to let each site speak in the most precise possible voice, preferring to take “a small hand” in the cellar. The vines from La Comme are located on the east side of Santenay, near the edge of Chassagne-Montrachet where more oolite limestone is found, giving more finesse and structure to wines from this site. 

This site is located on the east side of Santenay, near the edge of Chassagne-Montrachet. There is more clay on the west side of the commune and more oolite limestone here. Clay soils give pinot noir a bigger profile with more fruit and opulence; the limestone in La Comme gives more finesse and structure. Lequin's vines in La Comme are over 45 years old, further improving upon the structure of the wine each year. Like his other reds, François ferments La Comme with native yeasts in barrique, with only up to 20% of new oak. Elevage lasts a total of 15 months before bottling, with the first 12 in barrique and the last 3 in stainless—Maraschino cherry, strawberry and button mushroom - all classic notes of red Burgundy. The palate is silky, complimented to by refined acid and tannin.
