Conterno is the definition of tradition and an example of Barolo's history. For 45 years, until his death in 2004, Giovanni Conterno forged a reputation as perhaps the greatest of all Barolo producers. Continuing his legacy, his son Roberto, who believes in tradition and will say that Giacomo Conterno will always belongs to the generations that came before him. In 1974, Giovanni acquire the Cascina Francia vineyard in Serralunga, with it's fabulous exposure, the site was perfect for the powerful Conterno style, this is the turning point when Giovanni stopped purchasing fruit and began to focus on his own vineyard sites and the fruit they produce. 

Grape: Nebbiolo

Viticulture: Organic 

Soil: This great Serralunga vineyard is comprised of 14 ha (9 ha Nebbiolo and 5 ha Barbera). Soils are a mix of calcareous marls, and exposure if west by southwest. Francia was called “Cascina Francia” on labels until 2015.
