In 1979, Erich Weber acquired a section of the west-facing Euchariusberg vineyard. TodaIy he's joined by his son Johannes and together they're making magical wines from the hills of the Saar. This highly prized Euchariusberg vineyard is primarily comprised of gray slate and quartz, regarded as one of the highest quality vineyards in the Mosel. They farm with the outmost respect to the earth, never using herbicides and keeping the yields low. This was fermented to a beautifully fruity sweetness lovel of 75 g/l. Although the fruit is present, there is a haunting smoky accompanied by dried apricot and peach. Very little of these gems hit the US so don't wait too long.
Pairing: boar sausage, caramelized suckling pig with macerated fruit. Hard sturdy cows milk cheeses.
Soil: primarily gray slate, with some quartz and quartzite- bearing sandstone
Viticulture: practicing organic
