Jean Foillard 'Les Charmes Eponym,' Morgon, Beaujolais, France 2021
Jean Foillard inherited the domaine from his father in 1980 and revolutionized the perception of Beaujolais wine. He was a devoted follower of Jules Chauvet's methods and adopted practices such as organic viticulture, low yields, and extended whole cluster fermentation and barrel aging. These techniques caught the attention of wine enthusiasts and professionals alike, as his wines exhibit a distinct aroma, bold yet subtle flavors, and remarkable structure with mineral undertones. Foillard's wines are known for their exceptional aging potential, particularly the Charmes lieu-dit, located at one of the highest points in the appellation. While the Côte du Py boasts a profound structure and Corcelette offers a silky texture, Charmes offers a unique crunchiness with bright acidity and a leaner mineral profile.
