Vallée d'Aosta is Italy's smallest wine region, but produces wonderfully alpine wines. Here, Nebbiolo is known as Picotendro, with more energy & floral high toned aromatics than wines from Barolo or Barbaresco. These wines are light and pretty with slightly gripping tannins. Perfect to enjoy with a plate of charcuterie or sip on its own.
Pairing: Charcuterie, mushroom dishes
Grapes: 70% Picotendro (local Nebbiolo clone), 30% Gros Vien, Neyret, Cornalin and Fumin.
Soil: Alkaline/sandy Soil
La Kiuva is committed to giving value to the terroir and the indigenous grape variety (Nebbiolo, known as Picotendro). Members were encouraged to take over old, abandoned vineyards in the best areas in order to produce authentic and sustainable wines. All vineyard work is done by hand because the steep slopes are inaccessible to machinery.
