Cupramontana is the birthplace of Verdicchio production in Le Marche, with the first vineyards being registered back in 1471. As early as 1186, the Camaldolite monks began viticulture in the area of San Michele. Within this historic sector of the region, La Marca di San Michele estate, managed by siblings Alessandro and Beatrice Bonci along with the help of Daniela Quaresima, proudly stands out amongst its peers. Their six hectares of Verdicchio vines are cultivated using entirely organic methods, providing them with an undeniable edge over their neighbors. In the vinification process, they use minimal SO2, and some of their wines are aged in large botte and bottled unfiltered.

In the family’s capable hands, the Verdicchio grape shows its potential to make one of the most exciting white wines of Italy. La Marca produces two main white wines, a DOC Verdicchio di Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore called “Capovolto” that is tank-aged and a DOCG Verdicchio di Castelli di Jesi Riserva called “Passolento” that is botte-aged with full malolactic fermentation. Their vineyards are planted on a 12 million year old former limestone seabed, on slopes climbing the foothills of the Apennine mountains facing east towards the Adriatic sea.

The wine has a clean and transparent color with green reflections. At first, delicate and elegant white flowers can be detected on the nose, followed by green and brackish notes that give this wine its personality and complexity. On the palate, there is a deep and savory sensation, starting off rounded and balanced before revealing its beautiful minimality.
