Mencia is one of those grapes that have flown under the radar for so long that great examples of it prove to be good value in the world of wine. It rivals wines of Beaujolais and Burgundy and have incredible aging potential. The Gaba do Xil, which is names for the hillside of the Sil River, is their entry level wine that over delivers in every way. Great fresh red fruit notes, smooth tannin and balance, crunchy acidity. Enjoy it over some BBQed fish, poultry or more assertive cheeses.
