Marnes Blanches 'En Quarte Vis' Chardonnay, Côtes du Jura, France 2019
There is a reason Géraud and Pauline are amongst the rising stars of the Jura. Their wines continue to excel and every new release is outstanding. This wine comes from several vineyards in Cesancey. The vines are between 8 and 70+ years old, planted in white marl and limestone. The grapes are direct pressed into old oak for fermentation and an 18-month élevage. No SO2 is added at bottling. This wine, formerly called Vieilles Vignes, was mainly aged in demi-muids and is denser, more powerful and complex than the Molates, and it will age well. This is the kind of Chardonnay we love, perfect balance of citrus fruit and creaminess that will keep evolving after the second and even third day after being open.
