Marnes Blanches 'Les Molates' Chardonnay, Côtes du Jura, France 2020
Natives of the Jura, but from farming rather than winemaking backgrounds, Géraud and Pauline Fromont began this domaine when they were in their mid-20s. They were, and still are, ambitious, talented young winemakers. The couple share all vineyard, cellar, and sales duties. This assemblage comes from several plots around the town of Gevingey. The vines average 35-years-old and are planted in classic marl and limestone. The grapes are pressed directly to barrel for fermentation and malolactic conversion. No bâtonnage is done during élevage and the barrels are kept fully topped to prevent oxidation. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulphur. This wine has incredible length. Notes full of confit lemon, wild honey, and orange pith. The medium body is balanced by nervy acidity.
Soil: marl and limestone
