Located in Portugal's smallest wine appellation of Carcavelas, just west of Lisbon, and amongst one of the rarest wines in the world, Quinta dos Pesos ceased to produce wines after the passing of its original owner making it even more rare. Carcavelos is a Vinho Generoso, or strong fortified wine, produced from a blend of up to nine different whites and reds varieties with elevate range from five to twenty years, becoming oxidative in character. Great for the more adventurous wine pairing, the sweetness and acidity are a great match for game meats and hardier cheeses.
Grapes: Arinto, Galego Dourado, Ratinho, Rabo da Ovelha, João Santarem, Espadeiro Tinto, Castelão
Pairing: harder cheeses, caramelized pork belly, roasted duck
