While much of the Piemonte eagerly pushes the greatest wines to market as soon as they are in bottle, “Austri” is one of two cuvées from San Fereolo that offer a patient alternative. Nicoletta treats the wine with a high degree of respect, allowing it to evolve through 3 years of elevage in large, neutral oak, followed by another 3 to 4 years in bottle before release.  We find a lot in common with Cappellano Barbera in the sense that this is given the same serious cellar treatment as her best wines and shows a very complex, fully-formed expression of Barbera. (Cappellano is a more finessed, precise style, whereas San Fereolo is fierce & rugged.) Amongst one of the best expressions of Barbera you'll find!
