Santa Caterina Rosato, Liguria di Levante, Italy 2021

Santa Caterina Rosato, Liguria di Levante, Italy 2021
The picturesque farm of Santa Caterina is part of a hilly ridge just outside the town of Sarzana. This alluvial formation hill, arranged in terraces and slopes, is composed of a clayey red earth. Not far away, towards the sea, on gravelly and pebbly alluvial terraces, are the other vineyards and olive groves. Andrea Kihlgren inherted the land from his mother. He promised to farm the land with respect, but he most certainly made some changes. He updated the cellar and replanted many of the vineyards but abiding by the polycultural traditions of the region. This is not your classic rosato. This is nearly a light red. Should be drunk around 60 degrees. The wine is dark-fruited and savory with a satisfying level of complexity and length. If you are a lover of esoteric Italian wine, this is for you.
Pairing: Grilled shrimp, seared tuna
Grape: Canaiolo and Ciliegiolo of the Ghiarétolo vineyards.
