The family-owned and operated Weingut Knoll is renowned for its excellent wines and pursuit of quality wine in Austria. The winery cultivates 15 hectares of land in Austria's most prolific terroir, the Wachau. The family vineyards are in and around the village of Loiben, where the vines are planted to stone-terraced sites of gneiss or granite layered with glacial sediment along the northern banks of the Danube River. The winery's cellar work is done traditionally, with large oak casks used for maturation, resulting in wines that age gracefully over time.

Ried Kreutles Grüner Smaragd boasts a highly focused and concentrated flavor profile with distinct ginger, lemon preserve, spice rack, and smoke, with a  touch of tropical fruit, like mango. The palate has weight and viscosity, but it is compact and well-aligned -Kimberly

Pairing: grilled sausages loaded with sauerkraut & onions, BLT sandwiches smothered in mayo, pork schnitzel, smoked salmon, pasta tossed in pesto sauce, steamed asparagus, and potato leek soup

Grape: Grüner Veltliner

Soil: The Kreutles vineyard at the foot of the Loibenberg is formed from loess. Loess is a fertile and calcareous glacial sediment that is transported by wind.

Viticulture: Sustainable
