Weingut Kögl Morillon, Austria 2018
Located in Styria, southern Austrian, near the border with Slovenia. Here Chardonnay, or Morillon in the local dialect, grows with ease, making fantastic wines. There are some parallels that can be drawn to Burgundy, including the limestone soil and cooler climate, but nothing to compare here. This is a unique wine and translates the region perfectly. It is lively and refreshing, with a solid fruit core and accents of smoke, nougat, and apple peel.
Pairing: Richer dishes, game, gnocchi with butter and sage
Grape: Chardonnay (Morillon)
Viticulture: biodynamic, low sulfur
