Weingut Pranzegg 'Glass Mountain' Lagrein, Italy 2020
Weingut Pranzegg is very close to the Austrian border. Martin Gojer is the proprietor; he took over his family's estate in 2008 and immediately set out to convert it to biodynamic viticulture and halt the sale of grapes to local co-ops to focus on estate vinification and bottling. The vines are trained in the pergola system to protect the grapes from the surprisingly intense sunlight and heat in Alto Adige. The wine is a light-hearted, high-altitude Lagrein; think more whole cluster/semi-carbonic and lighter extraction than most other Lagrein from the region. Fermented with native yeasts, minimal SO2. Raised in old wood and concrete. This is a fun medium to full bodied wine from the Alto Adige. Leans natural, but fresh and joyous.
Pairing: Cured meat, sausages
Viticulture: Biodynamic, triple A
