Closerie du Pelan Bordeaux Rouge, France 2010

Pelan is owned by the Amoreau family, who has run the Le Puy estate since 1610. Just like Le Puy's vineyards, they are managed with organic and biodynamic practices.  Closerie de Pelan encompasses 42 total hectares, most of which—besides a small parcel of Sauvignon Blanc—are planted to roughly 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot, at altitudes of 50 to 80 meters.

Pairing: A holiday meal, beef bourguignon

Grapes: 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot

Viticulture: Biodynamic, low-sulfur

Soil: Red clay, silt, and limestone top soils on top of the Asteries limestone plateau that extends to Château Le Puy from Saint Émilion.
