Abbatucci 'Cuvée Faustine' Ajaccio Rosé, Corsica, France 2016 3L
Abbatucci 'Cuvée Faustine' Ajaccio Rosé, Corsica, France 2016 3L
Jean-Charles Abbatucci is as ubiquitous to the region as his wines. His heritage dates back to the French Revolution; in the capital city of Ajaccio, it’s hard to go anywhere without seeing the Abbatucci name, whether on monuments, street corners, or in wine bars. The wine is made mostly from the native Corsican grape Sciaccarellu (Chya-ca-ray-loo). The palate oozes blood orange with a saline-laden finish. And while most rosé is meant for immediate consumption, a few can withstand the test of time. Faustine rosé falls in line with the like of Domaine Terrebrine, Domaine Tempier, and Château Simone just to name a few. Some bottle age just makes these wines better.
Grapes: Sciaccarellu
Pairing: BBQ, Sardines, Anchovies, Shellfish
Soil: Granite
Farming: Biodynamic (Abbatucci plays traditional Corsican music over loudspeakers in the vineyards because he believes it benefits the development of the fruit…)
