Domaine Carrette, Pouilly-Fuissé, France 2022
Domaine Carrette, Pouilly-Fuissé, France 2022
Domaine Carrette doesn’t present itself with the pompousness of some Burgundy producers, instead, they speak in softer tones, letting the region’s limestone-rich soils and climate speak through their wines. Domaine Carrette has always quietly searched for quality over spectacle. This approach is clear in every sip, where you can taste the history in the vines, the hands-on work in the vineyards, and the Carrette family’s dedication to allowing Pouilly-Fuissé’s natural elegance shine through.
Their vineyards are rooted in the chalky clay and limestone soils of Pouilly-Fuissé, soils that give the wine an intensity of minerality without overwhelming the palate. The vines are cared for with the kind of careful, mindful attention that comes from generations of experience. Each plot is harvested separately, and all the wines are vilified with native yeast.
In the cellar, the Carrettes follow traditional winemaking techniques. They let the wine develop at its own pace, which is just what this vintage needed. The 2022 season was warm and generous, producing grapes with a surprising richness that could easily have become heavy in other hands. Instead, Domaine Carrettes coaxes the wine into a graceful balance, with structure and freshness that linger long after the glass is empty.
