Domaine Comte Abbatucci ‘Alte Rosso’ Blanc, Corsica 2022
Jean-Charles Abbatucci is a well-known figure in Corsica, and his family's legacy dates back to the French Revolution. In the capital city of Ajaccio, his surname can be seen on monuments, street corners, and in wine bars. He is a strong advocate for Corsican culture, biodynamic viticulture, and the revival and preservation of native wine grapes. As a result, he is producing some of the finest wines on this rugged and isolated island. All of his vineyards are managed with biodynamic farming methods, and everything is done in the cellar to ensure the purest expression of the region's unique terroir.
When it comes to discussing the best white wines in the world, we often mention Chardonnay from Burgundy, GG German Rieslings, and the exceptional Chenin Blanc of the Loire. However, it's worth exploring the potential of Corsican native varietals - many of which are on the verge of extinction - and their remarkable ability to produce truly magical wine. This is a white wine made from the rare and ancient Barbarossa grape, which has a pink skin but produces finely-tuned white wines with elegant aromas. The name 'Alte Rosso' is from a red granite mountain peak near the Abbatucci estate.
