Domaine Comte Abbatucci ‘Cuvee Collection General de la Revolution,’ Blanc, Vin de France 2021
Jean-Charles Abbatucci is a well-known figure in the region, and his family's legacy dates back to the French Revolution. In the capital city of Ajaccio, his name can be seen on monuments, street corners, and in wine bars. He is a strong advocate for Corsican culture and biodynamic viticulture. As a result, he is producing some of the finest wines on this rugged and isolated island.
When it comes to discussing the best white wines in the world, we often mention Chardonnay from Burgundy, GG German Rieslings, and the exceptional Chenin Blanc of the Loire. However, it's worth exploring the potential of a blend of Corsican native varietals - many of which are on the verge of extinction - and their remarkable ability to produce a truly magical wine. This particular wine, named after one of Jean-Charles' ancestors who bravely fought and died during the French Revolution, boasts a full-bodied yet finely-tuned flavor. The grapes are grown using biodynamic farming methods, and everything is done in the cellar to ensure the purest expression of the region's unique terroir.
This stunning bottle of wine is on par with some of the best white wines in the world. Driving through the hills of Corsica is an experience that is difficult to replicate, but a good bottle of wine can come close. This particular wine is a treat for the senses, with a beautiful aroma of Maquis, tangerine, pithy citrus, and almond skin. The mineral core of the flavor is impressive, yet still maintains its floral depth without feeling heavy. Bravo! - Kimberly
