Clos Canarelli 'Alta Rocca,' Corse Figari Rouge, France 2020
Clos Canarelli 'Alta Rocca,' Corse Figari Rouge, France 2020
Yves Canarelli's dedication to restoring native Corsican grape varieties has been instrumental in the recognition of Corsican wines. As a former economics student turned enologist, Yves took over his family's vineyard in 1993 and has been a strong advocate for the cause ever since. The Corse Figari appellation has a rich history dating back to the 5th century B.C. Despite being the oldest wine-growing region in Corsica, it took pioneers like Yves to remove non-native grape varieties and ensure the recognition that Corsican wines deserved.
Alta Rocca is 100% foudre-aged Sciaccarellu from Canarelli’s southern extremity. It brilliantly represents Sciaccarellu's seductive fruit, supple floral, delicate aromas, and supple tannins —Corsica's answer to red Burgundy. With age, this wine delivers savory red fruits, tea leaves & supple tannins. The 2014 Alta Rocca, is one of the most enjoyable wines I have enjoyed in 2023 so far. - Kimberly
