Aldo Conterno 'Bussia' Barolo, Piedmont, Italy 2019
Aldo Conterno 'Bussia' Barolo, Piedmont, Italy 2019
Aldo Conterno's prestigious estate in Monforte d'Alba produces this bottling from the famous Bussia vineyard, one of the most historically significant vineyards in Barolo. The Bussia soils are rich in clay and limestone, leading to an age-worthy wine with complexity and structure.
The Nebbiolo is hand-harvested and carefully selected before traditional vinification with a long maceration period. The wine is aged in large Slavonian oak casks for about 24-28 months, allowing it to develop elegance and soften the tannins while preserving the fruit's purity.
Conterno's 2019 Bussia shows classic Barolo character with notes of red cherries, roses, dried herbs, and earthy notes such as tar and truffle. On the palate, it is rich, elegant, and powerful, with firm structure and tannins that balance its bright acidity. Flavors of ripe red berries, spices, licorice, and a subtle mineral backbone create a well-rounded wine with depth and intensity. Like most top-tier Barolo, it has excellent aging potential, allowing it to develop further complexity over the next few decades.
