Frantz Chagnoleau 'Clos Saint-Pancras,' Macon-Villages, Burgundy, France 2024
Frantz and his wife, Caroline Gon, are each highly respected wine makers in their own right, and together they run the hidden gem that is Domaine Frantz Chagnoleau. Frantz began his career working with Olivier Merlin in the Mâconnais after obtaining his degree in Oenology. Caroline holds two degrees in agricultural engineering and Oenology, gained valuable experience in Napa Valley at Newton Vineyards, and if that wasn't impressive enough, she then became head winemaker for Héritiers du Comte Lafon working alongside Dominique Lafon herself. The couple remain friends with Dominique, and the echos of her terroir-driven philosophy can be felt immediately in the pure and focused Mâconnais whites they produce.
Frantz and Caroline have an innate passion for organic farming and minimal intervention that is all their own, and their vineyards have been certified organic since 2013. Native yeasts are exclusively used for all fermentations, and very few wines see new oak, as they favor mainly large neutral French oak vessels to keep the wine light on its feet.
