Isabelle & Denis Pommier 'Les Reinettes' Chablis, France 2022
Founded in 1990 by Isabelle and Denis Pommier, this family-run estate in Poinchy (just outside the village of Chablis) has grown from two to sixteen hectares of vineyards spanning Petit Chablis to three premier crus—Fourchaume, Côte de Léchet, and Troesmes. Farming organically in Chablis’s challenging northern climate, the Pommiers are among the few producers who hand-harvest the majority of their fruit which ensures precision and purity.
Their vineyards rest on the classic Kimmeridgian limestone and marl soils that define Chablis, yielding wines of saline minerality, tension, and vivid acidity. The Les Reinettes is an extension of the kimmeridgian-centric parcel of Croix aux Moines which were aquired since they started with Pommier. It is top slope and steep — difficult to work. In the cellar the wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts and carefully aged partly in old barrels, partly in tank to preserve transparency and texture. The Pommiers’ wines are generous yet precise, combining the region’s hallmark briny backbone with a supple, expressive palate that speaks clearly of their exceptional terroir.
