Steeve Charvet Moulin-a-Vent, Beaujolais, France 2022
Steeve Charvet's domaine is centered in Chiroubles, but like many Beaujolais producers, he makes village-level wines from a variety of nearby appelations including Morgon and Moulin-à-Vent. Steeve joined his father Armand in 2010, as the sixth son to run the estate, which has been family-owned for over a century. The viticulture has always been staunchly traditional, practicing sustainable hand-management of vines across their 8 hectares of vineyards. He carries on the use of concrete tanks and old Burgundy barrels in the cellar, creating expressions of each village in a style that is consistently classic, if even rustic. Charvet has only 0.5 hectare of vines in Moulin-à-Vent, which has been called the village's best kept secret by importer France + Western. In contrast to the brooding and stolid wines this appellation is known for, Charvet makes a joyously floral and lithe expression of this classic Beaujolais region.
