Charvin Châteauneuf-du-Pape, France 2021 [375ml]

Located in the northwest part of the appellation, with vines chiefly in Cabrieres, Maucoil, and Mont Redon, Laurent Charvin makes one of the most elegant and seamless Châteauneuf-du-Pape.  He farms all his 9ha of Châteauneuf-du-Pape parcels organically.  Opting to produce a single cuvée, the winemaking here is staunchly traditional, with no destemming and fermentation and aging occurring all in concrete tanks for 21 months, bottled unfiltered.

2021 was a mixed vintage across France, however, Charvin excelled due to meticulous hand management and smart picking dates to avoid the autumn rains. This vintage is quite highly rated for his CdP, and the slightly cooler and classic temperatures of 2021 led to this wine being exceptionally focused and age-worthy.

Grapes: Depending on the crop variation each vintage the blend is roughly 85% Grenache average vine age 58 years, 5% Mourvèdre 61 years, 5% Vaccarèse 62 years, 5% Syrah 21 years.

Soil: Sandy, more clay based soil with galets roulés
