San Fereolo 'La Provinciale' Langhe Nebbiolo, Piedmont, Italy 2019
San Fereolo 'La Provinciale' Langhe Nebbiolo, Piedmont, Italy 2019
Nicoletta Bocca purchased her property in Valdiba in 1992, which currently has 12 hectares planted mainly to Dolcetto, with Nebbiolo, Barbera, and a few white varietals as well. The high-altitude estate has been planted for far longer, with some Dolcetto vines going back to 1936. She has always managed her vineyards biodynamically, is Demeter certified, and keeps the winemaking defiantly low-tech and classic.
Nicoletta's Nebbiolo wines are absolutely stunning and age as well as any Barolo (which is just a short trip north, and half the fruit for La Provinciale comes from a friend in Seralunga d'Alba). However, she purposely underplays Nebbiolo's importance in favor of Dolcetto, in protest of Nebbiolo's aristocratic status. Lucky for you, this means she refuses to charge the high prices for Nebbiolo wines that you might see in Barolo and Barbaresco, so this bottle is a gem for any Piedmont red enthusiast.
