Cantina Delsignore Gattinara 'Il Putto' Piedmont, Italy 2020
Cantina Delsignore is a historic, family-run estate in Gattinara, now led by third-generation winemaker Stefano Dorelli. The estate traces its roots to the 1960s union of the Delsignore and Nervi families, who shared prized vineyard parcels in Valferana, Permolone, Lurga, and Palo di Ferro. After years of dormancy Stefano revived the winery in 2009 expanding its holdings to just over 3 hectares of Nebbiolo.
Winemaking is traditional and minimalist: long macerations, aging in barrels with no new oak. Stefano works entirely by hand and farms steep, terraced vineyards rooted in Gattinara’s classic porphyritic volcanic soils, rich in iron and minerals. These ancient, reddish sands lend the wines their hallmark tension, depth, and savory elegance.
The wine is pure, structured expressions of Alto Piemonte Nebbiolo- showing notes of dried cherry, mountain herbs, licorice, and sandalwood. While approachable young, they possess the depth and balance to age gracefully over time.
