McCall is a family-owned estate vineyard and winery that began producing quality North Fork wines in 2007. However, the history of the property goes back many centuries to the Algonquin people who lived here in what is now referred to as Fort Corchaug (from which the name of the nearby town of Cutchogue is derived). This fort village and surrounding woodlands and estuaries was an important cultural center for the Algonquins of the pre-Colonial North Fork. In 1902 the property came into the hands of the ancestors of the McCall family, and it was eventually passed down to Russell McCall.

After a long career as a Burgundy importer, Russell resolved to preserve the historic Fort Corchaug property, as well as the adjacent forest (known as Down's Woods) which was at risk of being cleared by a developer. He joined with Peconic Land Trust to purchase and preserve Down's Woods and Fort Corchaug in 1996, establishing a 200-acre public conservation parcel adjacent to his family farm. He then began to replant his own property with 21 acres of wine grapes, and the first vintage of McCall wines was produced in 2007. Russell subsequently began raising cattle on the property, converted the old stable into a rustic tasting room, and erected a wind turbine to provide energy on the estate.
