Bedell Musée, North Fork of Long Island, New York 2019
Bedell is renowned for crafting some of the most full-bodied and ageworthy red wines in the region. One of Bedell's claims to fame is that their 2009 Merlot was selected from an array of New York wines to be served at President Obama's second inauguration lunch in 2013. This merit helped solidify their place as a top producer of Long Island red wines, and they have upheld that reputation to this day, continuing to farm by hand and use only estate-grown fruit for all of their wines.
Musée is Bedell's premier cuvée, made from their best grapes and only in the best vintages. Petit Verdot and Merlot are well-suited to Long Island, which features sandy clay soils not unlike these varietals' spiritual home of Bordeaux's right bank. 2015 was an excellent year for reds on the North Fork, with a long and dry summer bringing full ripeness levels, and the generally cool maritime climate preserving acidity to lend power and balance to this very full-bodied blend.
