Clos Sainte Magdeleine 'Bel-Arme' Cassis Blanc, France 2021
Clos Sainte Magdeleine 'Bel-Arme' Cassis Blanc, France 2021
Importer Kermit Lynch is not wrong with he calls Cassis 'an earthly paradise.' The vineyards at Clos Sainte Magdeleine are a sight to behold, protruding out on a private cape to meet breathtaking limestone bluffs, towering over the glistening azure waters. Cassis, with its unique location, has given Clos St Magdeleine's white and rosé wines an unmistakable maritime influence. The wines of Sainte Magdeleine are characteristically salty, mineral-rich, and fresh. The Bel-Arme cuvée, which is aged in concrete tanks on lees, can be enjoyed now or cellared for a few years, as the philosophy of Clos is to make wines that can withstand the test of time while still being enjoyed in their youth. The palate is plush. This is not a lean acid-driven white, but still refreshing, perhaps due to a noticeable saltiness at the end. The combination of citrus and stone fruit complements the flavor of a provençal herb. Always a unique and thoughtful wine.
