Christine Huff 'Quicksilvaner' Silvaner, Rheinhessen, Germany 2022
Christine Huff 'Quicksilvaner' Silvaner, Rheinhessen, Germany 2022
Christine Huff diligently works her family vineyards on the famous Roter Hang in Rheinhessen. The estate has been family-operated for over 300 years, and Christine represents the next generation of innovative German winemakers. She focuses on producing modern, terroir-driven wines while practicing chemical-free viticulture.
Her standout wine (and the only one imported to the US thus far) is "Quicksilvaner," an especially focused take on this popular native varietal. Silvaner always produces a dry and mineral-driven wine, but this is on another level of crunchy quaffability. Spritely and neutral, with just subtle hints of green apple, citrus, and a crisp finish that reflects the chalky soils of the region. Christine's minimalist approach allows the character of the grape and vineyard to shine through, and shine it does! Quicksilvaner's lively acidity and lean minerality make this silver-white wine extremely drinkable.
Pairing: Summery salads, raw bar, or fresh goat cheese. (Also I can, and have, drank an entire bottle of this with a bag of potato chips)
Grape: Silvaner
Soils: Loess with chalky limestone-laden bedrock
Viticulture: Practicing Organic
