The first Triebaumer to settle in Rust arrived in 1691, a Lutheran craftsman fleeing the religious persecution of the Counter Reformation. He married the daughter of a winegrower, and ever since that time the Triebaumers have been increasingly involved with wine.  This winery is goes to great lengths to improve sustainability in the vineyard and the cellar.  The graze sheep year round, keep bees, plant hedges, orchards and trees, use of electric vehicles, Terra Preta & selective handpicking.  This is beyond organic and biodynamic, this is trying to give back to the earth and reduce carbon emissions.  Their wine is like a sensory walk through the woods, complex, passing by blackberries and cherries, sweet, sour and wild, fresh leaves on living soil, a brooding wine, so Blaufränkisch.
