Roagna Langhe Rosso, Italy 2019
Roagna Langhe Rosso, Italy 2019
Roagna’s Langhe Rosso is essentially Barolo/Barbaresco without the price tag. The wine is sourced from the younger vines within some of Barolo and Barbaresco’s top vineyard sites, Pira and Pajé (Pie-yay). Following the harvest, the fruit spends time in small containers while it is hand sorted to select only the perfect berries. Fermentation follows - exclusively in large wood casks for roughly ten days. An extended maceration lasts for at least two months (60 days) after fermentation is complete. Finally, the wine is aged in neutral oak barrels for approximately five years, which means this Langhe Rosso is aged longer than is required even for Barolo. Luca Roagna's Barolo's cost upwards of $250, so this wine is quite sought after and never stays in stock for long.
